Creativity and spirituality are strongly linked. They seem to be in a never ending cycle, with creativity leading to feeling more spiritual and spirituality leading to being able to be more creative. Some part of me knew long ago that it never made any sense to make a living doing something that did not fulfill me. I still don’t know how I knew this, but this strong inner guidance is what allowed me to open a photography studio over 20 years ago, despite everyone in my life nay saying the idea. Today, I still make a large portion of my income from photography, and yet it is still a creative outlet for me.
Christmas Day rolled around this year and I felt that old familiar urge come up, that old friend that tells me when it’s time to express my creative side through my spirituality.
Part of being spiritual means that when you get a message that it’s time to play, it’s best to honor the call. And part of being spiritual means that you will get those messages to play more frequently!
So I set up my camera, proper lens and monopod and sat back and studied my friend Brenda’s tree. She didn’t want any help cooking, so I was free to do as I wished. There weren’t a lot of people there, so I didn’t feel obligated to play the social butterfly. I was exquisitely alone and free to contemplate the tree. Which I did, bringing myself into a meditative state. It was just me, and the tree. Pretty soon I began to notice things that weren’t there before.
Like the way the light hit some of the ornaments. Or the colors, and the way the colors blended or contrasted depending on which way I turned. The shapes. So I began to take photos. Before I knew it an hour had passed and dinner was ready, but I had achieved my objective. I had lots of images to play with!
I love the way that creativity and spirituality blends so much that I’ve decided to do a workshop on that very subject! It’s actually the first of three in a series, designed to help you start the New Year off in a productive way. You can take all three workshops (saving money in the process) or just one, or just two of them. It starts with the Creativity and Spirituality workshop, which will be held on Friday, January 21. It’s followed by a workshop titled “Do what you love for a living” on Friday, January 28, and ends with the last workshop on Marketing on Friday, February 4.
All three start at 6pm, all three are being held at the Lake Tahoe Spiritual Living Center. you can get the set of three for $90, or just do one or two for $35 each. And I have some special packages which include a combination of workshops and private coaching sessions, plus a referral program! Email me at email@example.com for more info. You can also call me at 530-906-9336 to register and get more information.
For now, I want to show you some of my Christmas images!
