Messages from afar
Posted in Helpful stuff on 12/02/2009 10:57 am by karenA couple of days ago, I reported in one of my posts that a dear friend of mine had told me that I was outlining, which is the process of, once you have a prayer or treatment in place, telling the Universe how you wish it to be accomplished. I want to again thank my friend for that. I had never heard the term, but I Googled it and discovered that it is a term coined by Emmet Fox, and I was indeed outlining in a certain area of my life.
I’m a willing sort of person, when someone tells me something, I’m willing to listen to it, heed it, acknowledge that perhaps that person, with their different perspective, might just be able to see something I can’t see at the moment. So, I’ve been proceeding with that in mind, thinking along the lines of, “ok, so I’m outlining. I’ll stop thinking in terms of solution and let you do that. This is my outcome, this is the result I am seeking.” I’ve basically been doing treatments, but I really have stopped with coming up with ways to get to the outcome I want.
Apparently not.
I’m still getting messages from afar.
Like this one, from my friend Jeff Anderson, in the form of his daily Snips in my email box: “In Zen Buddhism, there’s a concept called ‘zen mind, or ‘beginner’s mind.’ They say that the mind should be like an empty rice bowl. If it’s already full, then the universe can’t fill it. If it’s empty, it has room to recieve. This means that when we think we have things already figured out, we’re not teachable. Genuine insight can’t dawn on a mind that’s not open to recieve it. Surrender is a process of emptyhing the mind.“ That comes from Marianne Williamson.
Or this little zinger, from Alan Cohen, also in my email box this morning: “Truth only reveals itself when one gives up all preconcieved ideas-Shoseki.”
Ok, I get it. I might still be outlining. I might still be trying to tell the universe how to solve this particular little pickle I seem to have gotten myself into.
I’ve been told I have faith. In fact, I’ve been told that I’m one of the most faith filled around. Apparently now is the time to have even more faith, for what is outlining, but a lack of faith? A lack of a belief in Spirit’s ability to do what we have asked it to do? And haven’t I just enrolled in my first quarter classes for, of all things, studies to be a minister? I’m not sure, but I think that one of the qualifications to be a minister is faith.
So I’m sitting here this morning with a smile on my face, saying, “ok, I get it, I get the message.” I’m supposed to stop worrying, stop trying to figure it all out, just know that Spirit has my back, so to speak, and get on with the business of living.
So, what messages have you been getting lately? Have you recognized them as messages? Or are you falling back on that old standby: coincidence? Remember, there is no such thing as a coincidence. Coincidence is simply another way that Spirit tries to get our attention. Are you open to recieving messages? Being open allows us to receive, whether it’s gifts or messages. Messages come from any and all avenues. If you have asked for something, be prepared to get it, and if you are on a spiritual path, be prepared to recieve messages from all sorts of different places.
Sometimes it might even be your email box.
